Why you should try this puff pastry pear tart recipe
- A delicious tart under 40 minutes! While I usually prefer making puff pastry from scratch for desserts like the Apple Tarte Tatin, there are times when time is a luxury I can't afford. This puff pastry pear tart recipe provides a shortcut by using a store-bought puff pastry sheets, allowing you to enjoy this pear tart with puff pastry without sacrificing hours in the kitchen.
- Not overly sweet. This tart strikes the perfect balance of sweetness, allowing the natural flavors of the pears to shine through without being overwhelmed by sugar.
- Versatile serving options. You can make 8 pear tarts instead of one large one, making it perfect for individual servings or for sharing with a group.
Ingredients you will need
- Puff pastry – I use store bought puff pastry sheets for this easy pear tart, but you can make your own Rough puff pastry at home using only 5 simple ingredients.
- Light brown sugar – Alternatively, you can use white granulated sugar.
- Walnuts
- Pears – Make sure that you use ripe pears.
- Egg
- Milk – You can also replace it with a splash of water.
- Honey
Cooking tips
- Don’t use overripe pears. If you don’t want your pear filling to be mushy and the bottom of the crust to become soggy during baking, use pears that are ripe. Gently press your thumb near the stem end of the pear. Ripe pears should yield slightly to pressure, but they should not be overly soft.
- Thaw the puff pastry before unrolling it. Allowing the puff pastry to thaw properly before use will make it easier to handle and prevent it from tearing or breaking during unrolling.
- Adjust the sweetness to your liking. Since the natural sweetness of pears can vary, it's important to taste them beforehand. Then, you can sprinkle more or less sugar on top of the tart, adjusting the amount of sweetness to your taste. You can also do this by drizzling more honey on top of your easy puff pastry tart after baking.

Possible variations
- Vanilla extract – If you want to add vanilla flavor to your puff pastry tart, you can melt one tablespoon of unsalted butter, add 1 teaspoon of vanilla extract to it, and mix. Then, brush the surface of the puff pastry with it before adding the sugar and nuts on top.
- Salted caramel – If you don’t like honey, you can drizzle some Salted caramel on top of your tart instead. Pears and caramel fit well together.
- Pecans – Don’t like walnuts? Try replacing them with chopped pecans!
- Cinnamon – Cinnamon flavor complements not only apples but also pears So, if you’re big fan of cinnamon flavor, don’t hesitate and sprinkle some cinnamon powder on top of pear filling right before baking the tart.
- Ice cream – Serve a piece of warm pear puff pastry tart with a scoop of Condensed milk ice cream or store-bought vanilla ice cream of your choice.
